Washington Post: “Furious 7,” the latest installment of Universal Pictures’ street-racing “Fast and the Furious” films, is poised to rake in $115 million at the box office this weekend. One of the more surprising facts about the nearly 14-year, multi-billion dollar franchise is that it started with a magazine story. You can give credit to Vibe magazine freelancer Kenneth Li, now the editor-in-chief at tech site Re/code. Back in 1998, he was intrigued when he spotted the street-racing culture in Queens. “I was completely fascinated,” Li said. “It snowballed from there.”
