Broadcasting & Cable: In a rare reunion, three early linchpins of MTV’s rise in the 1980s — Tom Freston, Bob Pittman and Judy McGrath — said they would have a good shot at reviving the brand if they were (hypothetically) to return. Said Freston: “I think that could be done. MTV is in a difficult position now because the music video moved online. … But I wouldn’t say MTV is gone at all.” He added: “I haven’t really watched it in the past 5-6 years. … But they’re sort of the canary in the coalmine on linear TV.”
