Wall Street Journal: Pinterest’s ad strategy is taking an animated turn. The visual-bookmarking site has unveiled a new kind ad that jumps to life when a user scrolls through a grid of images, or “pins.” Called “cinematic pins,” the ads play short animations when a user scrolls up or down the page, and reveal a slightly longer version of the video clip when clicked on. The ad’s animation only moves as fast or slow as the user is scrolling, giving it a different feel from the kind of auto-play videos or press-play ads seen on Facebook and Twitter.
