USA Today: Viacom averted a distribution contract fight with Mediacom, the nation’s eighth largest media company, after they agreed to a new carriage deal. Mediacom, which serves about 500,000 customers in smaller markets in the Midwestern and Southeastern regions, will continue to carry Viacom’s 19 channels and Epix, the companies announced. The agreement also calls for Mediacom to get the rights to distribute Viacom shows across mobile devices, including “a substantial increase in free video on demand and expanded TV Everywhere functionality,” it said.
