Mashable: When Yahoo hired Katie Couric in 2013, it reportedly made a $6 million-per-year commitment to one of the biggest names in journalism. As of this month, Yahoo now reportedly pays Couric $10 million a year. That enormous salary is not just a testament to Couric’s name power, but just as importantly, to how much Yahoo is willing to pay to look like a major player in media. Moneyball, however, does not often work in media; rarely do you get better results for truckloads of money. That means Yahoo will have to evaluate whether news is a game that the former portal can win.
