Capital New York: The Wall Street Journal is beta-testing its inaugural mobile-only product, called What’s News, a paid digest-style app named after the paper’s signature front-page franchise. The app is designed to shore up user loyalty as the Journal seeks 3 million subscribers by 2017. An email sent to readers invited to preview What’s News ahead of its official rollout says the app “delivers the 10 most important business stories, succinctly and right to your phone – updated in real-time and curated by a dedicated team of Journal editors.” The app will be made available to all Journal subscribers sometime later this summer.
