WWD: There is now a generation that “just does not read print” media, said Bill Keller, former executive editor of the New York Times, who now serves as editor in chief of the Marshall Project, a nonprofit news organization. While he doesn’t believe that paper newspapers will go away entirely, they “may become a boutique kind of thing.” The last ones to survive, he added, will likely be in “smaller communities, where the local advertisers still buy ads in the newspapers where they don’t need the reach of online … But the trend [of print waning] is irreversible.”
