Australian Financial Review: A who’s who of the Australian media, business and tech sectors, including Lachlan Murdoch, have piled in to back a startup that plans to let consumers pay their smartphone bills by watching ads. The company, called Unlockd, has developed a technology platform that allows telecommunications providers to offer customers the option of watching ads to earn mobile credit, or even pay for their entire phone plans. It has raised funding of about $15 million from a range of big-name backers, who have been impressed by its plans for global expansion through tapping into the burgeoning potential of mobile advertising technology and disrupting the telco sector.
