New York Times: Ralph Baruch, a refugee from Nazi Germany who turned Viacom, a small cable and syndication company that CBS spun off in 1971, into a communications and entertainment giant, has died at his home in Manhattan. He was 92. Baruch was a CBS VP when the Federal Communications Commission ruled that television networks could no longer own cable systems. To comply, CBS created a new publicly owned company with Baruch as its president and CEO.
