Tampa Bay Times Buys, Shuts Down Tampa Tribune

USA Today: The Tampa Tribune, a newspaper that has been publishing daily in Florida since 1895, will cease publication Wednesday after being purchased by its rival, the Tampa Bay Times. The Poynter Institute, the Times’ parent company, announced the deal. “The continued competition between the two newspapers was threatening to both.” At least 100 jobs are expected to be cut as the Times eliminates redundant operations.
