Guardian: The BBC has struck an £8 million deal to pay for 150 local journalists in an attempt to fill the local democracy gap in the UK. Under the agreement with the News Media Association, the BBC will fund 150 journalists from 2017. They will be employed by local news organizations to provide a service covering local authorities and public services for news providers including the BBC.
