VentureBeat: AT&T has announced plans to acquire Quickplay Media, a cloud-based platform that powers over-the-top video services. Founded out of Toronto, Quickplay has raised more than $180 million since its inception in 2003, and it was bought out by Chicago-based private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners in 2012 for around $100 million. The news comes three months after AT&T revealed plans to launch a new cross-platform TV streaming service later this year, powered by the company’s DirectTV.
