New York Post: Comcast announced that it is giving its NBCUniversal media division access to the extremely valuable viewer data collected by its cable division’s set-top boxes. The country’s No. 1 cable company had kept this information from NBCU while seeking to merge with Time Warner Cable. Comcast withheld the data, reportedly, to avoid fanning consumer-privacy concerns as regulators sorted out consequences of the proposed merger. However, having abandoned its merger plans, Comcast apparently believes it can release the data with impunity.
