Financial Times: Sky has made its first significant move to create pan-European television programming, committing €18 million to a hub for its arts output in Milan. The pay-TV broadcaster, which last year acquired its sister companies in Italy and Germany, is seeking to compete with the likes of streaming service Netflix, which uses its international scale to finance big-budget productions as “House of Cards.” The new Sky arts production hub will make shows and finance events for audiences in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany and Austria. Sky has about 21 million TV subscribers in Europe, more than rivals such as Liberty Global.
