New York Post: YouTube is about to unveil a major push into the music business — one that will seriously amp up the competition between it and music labels. The initiative, called YouTube for Artists, includes providing marketing advances to artists directly, helping them market themselves to fans and sharing in revenue. At the same time, Google’s global video giant is ready to share with the artists data and analytics on streaming hot spots. The effort could cut music labels out of a huge piece of their business.
