Nielsen said the viewership is down from the previous two years, which both exceeded 7 million. The awards in 2012 reached just over 6 million, with the 5.7 million viewers in 2007 the smallest audience for the show since at least 1988. The lesbian coming-of-age story “Fun Home” won the Tony for best musical on Broadway’s biggest night on Sunday, with “The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night-time” winning best play.
