New York Post: Consumer Reports is pulling the plug on its 9-year-old ShopSmart magazine. The last edition will be the August/September issue, as CEO Marta Tellado embarks on an ambitious digital agenda and shakes up the print operations. The sudden shutdown of ShopSmart has angered the News Guild of New York. Twelve unionized workers and six managers were slated to be laid off as a result of the closing. The News Guild has claimed that parent company Consumer’s Union is “violating seniority rights and ignoring contract language that bans layoffs of long-term employees.” The Guild has vowed it “will fight back.”
